I’m at Gatwick with my bike and gear all packed, heading to Inverness, should be at John O’Groats by lunchtime tomorrow, and Lands End 19 days later. However, it all seems a bit unlikely at the moment!

I’m traveling a bit lighter than in Finland as there was lots of stuff I didn’t use. The bike bag weighs 13kg and the gear bag 16kg (including quite a lot of porridge in case it’s not available locally!). Easyjet only charged £12 per bag which I think is good value – as long as it gets there. The most daunting bit is carrying the bags 200m from the hotel to the railway station in the morning. If I can do that, it will be plain sailing to build the bike up, get onto two wheels and downhill all the way!
