Day 4 of walking and my fourth full English breakfast. If only the albergues on the Camino de la Compostela offered such food. The breakfast today was special as it seems we were sitting in the seat of the late, great George Michael. The pub had a lot of pictures and memorabilia. An interesting fact (to me) is that I am the same age as George would have been. I take some sort of perverse pleasure in not being so successful, but having lived longer.

The nature of the Ridgeway changed today, initally following the Thames for some distance but then being much more wooded and less hilly than the first three days. The route is much more varied and less remote. There were still great views and good paths, but this has more of a feel of the walks I am used to in Sussex and Surrey. Perhaps its because we are now in the “home counties”?
We reached Wendover in good time and has two good rooms in an annexe to the Fat Fox Inn. We were looking forward to eating there, mainly because we are lazy, but the had a band playing and the kitchen was closing early.
We headed to a good looking cycling themed Pizza place that we had walked past on the way in and enjoyed fine pizza and really good/interesting beer.
