Walking does help you sleep, even if sharing a bed with a strange man! Enough of that! The breakfast took the traditional full English breakfast to a completely different level.

Anyway we headed off, initially we walked through Letcombe Regis village, which appears to be totally unspoiled. The biggest climb of the day was from the village to get us up to the Ridgeway, but once there it was a relatively easier day (compared to yesterday).
The views were great and the walking was easy, which is almost a perfect combination. There were only two incidents all day, the first was that we had one wrong packed lunch. It seemed that someone else in the pub may have order a vegetarian which had been inadvertently given too us. Not an issue for us, but probably messed up someone’s lunch.
Also, we were due to meet with some friends, Rob and Patricia, for a bit of a walk. After lots of text message guidance, we met them 100 metres from their car, and we didn’t walk together at all. We did all meet in the pub later when we had walked, and the had driven!
We had reached Streatley which is on one side of the River Thames, and Goring was on the other. In anywhere else it would just be one town – I suspect there is some history here! It seems one is in Oxfordshire, and the other is in Berkshire, so maybe that is the reason. Streatley seems to be a quiet village of stone buildings, while Goring is more of a busier town. Crossing the Thames between the two was interesting and marks about halfway on the Ridgeway.
We stayed in the Miller of Mansfield in a nice triple room, with a TV. This was good as an important football match was on, apparently. The main thing about Goring is that it had a Tesco Express and we could buy essentials for walking. I couldn’t believe, but was very relieved, to find that it had compeed blister plasters as I was starting to develop some nasty blisters.
