2021 C2C Day 06 – Macclesfield to Monford Bridge (Shrewsbury) – 100km

I’m determined this will be a quick one – nothing happened. I was pretty much packed up when the full english breakfast arrived to the room. Breakfast in bed, one if the advantages of Covid. All in all a good stay, excellent value and much better than sleeping in a bush. Got going by 8, and after a initial fear that I had hit the Macclesfield rush hour, I was soon on tiny back roads. It pretty much stayed like it all day – there you go, blog finished!

There are obvious exceptional things I need to record, firstly I think I followed the Cheshire Cycle Way for a lot of the day, its exceptional. Maybe 10 cars passed me in 40km, really nice. Two main observations are, I was riding with many different types of birds flitting from the hedgerows – impossible to photograph, but I did know some of their names. And as I cycled into Cheshire, the churches got smaller (more like Welsh chapels), and the houses got bigger (each one with an obligatory Range Rover).

So little happened, that I thought I was hallucinating when I saw Cleopatras Needle in the trees. I investigated down some footpaths, which confirmed I hadn’t been affected by the heat!

That was all that happened! Oh, and a trip into Whitchurch, a town I remember from my End to End ride. Still nice and exceptional cafe service.

Lunch by the Llangollen Canal, listening to some new music, to blot out the M6 and chatting to each canal boat that passed.

And finally, arriving at my destination to find they haven’t restarted camping after Covid. Obviously I got in, as a famous traveller, and one other tent for a couple who arrived by canoe. Its right by the River Severn, and an idyllic spot – although I may need to swim in the river as there are no showers!

And to cap the day off, it’s £5 in the honesty box, I have no change and had to have a lovely pint of Oracle (Salopian Brewery) in the pub attached to the campsite – it’s a perfect pint for a sweltering day – just to break a £20 note, I may break another just to be on the safe side!

This is a complete mess, all out of order and everything – he moral of the story is never start in the pub until the blog is finished. The Victorian (insert the correct religion here – I don’t want to offend!), had the right idea with morals!!!!!

I think this should be the “Run Club” motto!
